Neutral Essentials Always Reign Supreme

One of the first things I help new clients identify are 3 words that describe their “style personality.”

For example: my 3 words are FUN, BOLD, and EDGY- SOPHISTICATION.

For me, part of being “bold” is implementing fun color, or unique patterns.

Even though color may be my go-to, my wardrobe wouldn’t work without neutral essentials to lay the foundation.

Neutrals may not always be the most “fun” to buy, but they’re necessary. Color is like the wild, adventurous boyfriend; while neutrals are the responsible and reliable choice.

It’s always nice to have a balance.

Your go-to neutral essentials are defined by your own authentic, unique style. (Yes, we ALL have one. Even if you think yours doesn’t exist, it may be that it just hasn’t been discovered yet.)

As we all navigate our #WorkFromHome style, having comfortable (yet stylish) neutrals gives us the most flexibility and functionality.

Here are 3 neutral essential suggestions that will serve you well this season and beyond. No matter your size, age, or profession, these are pieces you will wear on repeat–trust me.

1. Neutral Ankle Pants

When it comes to neutral pants, I’ve never recommended khaki. Yes, it’s a classic favorite for some; however, most people’s complexions are washed out from the muted, dusty color. Instead opt for deeper tones like camel, chocolate, or even olive. These richer neutral tones bring more style and modern sophistication to the table. Also, the ankle length is flattering on both short and tall frames, and can be worn all year round.

2. A Go-To Blazer

A blazer doesn’t necessarily mean conservative and boring. You can switch up this classic with fabric texture, cut, luxe hardware, and lapels–or lack thereof–to add unique flare. In terms of which color to get (other than black), see what color coordinates with at least 50% of your wardrobe.

These days, brands are appealing much more to comfort and size inclusivity. Blazers are no longer an option that only come out for “nicer” occasions, they are now an everyday piece. The fit and feel of your go-to blazer can be just as amazing as your most comfortable jean jacket.

3. Knit Dress

A quality comfy knit dress can feel like wearing your favorite sweats–yet you’re dressed for work or date night! Length will depend on your height and frame; as will a fitted versus a looser fit or flare silhouette.

Layering a knit dress can be as easy as a hoodie and jean jacket with fun sneakers, a sleek moto jacket and ankle booties, or with a blazer and fierce flat or heeled knee high boots.

The options are endless.

Camel, winter white, black, navy, or steel grey are great choices for many complexions. Just keep in mind all knits are not created equal. Super cheap options may last one season and look great initially, but will pile and easily lose their shape over time.

Look for quality blended cottons with a “retain your shape” sort of stretch; including light wool, cotton, or cashmere blends.

Until Next Time,
