One Shopping Technique That’s A Money Saving Game Changer!

The scenario … you’re in a store with no intention to buy anything.  You’re happy “just looking”.  Then it happens.  Something catches your eye.  You MUST have it.

Something about it is unique.  Maybe it’s a striking color, maybe it’s a different style from your norm … AND (gasp) it’s at a shockingly reduced price!

Of course, you buy it!  You leave the store as if you accomplished a feat, and you can’t wait to wear it.

Then weeks pass, with tags on.  You figure … I’ll wear it soon, but I just don’t know what to wear with it?   More time passes, maybe even a whole season, still with tags on.  Why does this sound so familiar?

It’s simple.  We are conditioned to be mindless consumers.  Brands bank on us not having a plan, a purpose, when we shop. They make money, we waste money.  We make purchases based on impulse, instead of intention.

We are then stuck with a closet full of items that don’t “flow” with each other.  Each of those items become another outcast to add to our growing closets.  They have no real purpose.

What to do?

One easy technique I offer clients when shopping, is what I call “The 1 to 3 Rule”.

When purchasing a new item, ask yourself …  will this ONE piece pair well with at least THREE items I already own?  If yes, it will likely be a purposeful, worthy purchase.  If not, simply walk away, and happily browse.

This small piece of advice has really changed how my clients (including myself), shop.  You become more intentional with the “why” and focus on the purpose, as opposed to being caught up with impulse buying.   (Which can get us all in trouble at times. )

Try it, it works!  You won’t be disappointed.

You’ll save money, reduce closet clutter, and you’ll be less overwhelmed with your wardrobe as a whole.
