Three Items In Your Closet To Let Go ASAP!

We all think about getting things “in order” at home.  In reality, it seems we have so little time to actually DO it.  The task of organizing a closet can be daunting, and somehow it keeps moving to the bottom of the priority list. We become overwhelmed and don’t know where to start.I get it.  Who wants to spend time organizing when we could be catching up on Netflix with a glass of wine?

Some may not realize that an INTENTIONAL closet edit is more than a purge.  It’s a necessity when it comes to owning your image.  If done well, you end up feeling lighter, accomplished, and clearer about what items you love and what items make you feel good.

Streamlining your wardrobe to represent your best you is a game changer. Being a Pow-HER-house demands many things; feeling and looking like one is just part of it.  We can start with what’s in our closets.

For a simple place to start building a closet with INTENTION: here are my TOP THREE items to purge now

WHAT TO PURGE ASAP:

  • Tops That Have Seen Their Day

  • Jeans That Don’t Fit Or Flatter

  • Dated Footwear

 1. TOPS THAT HAVE SEEN THEIR DAY
I see a lot of clients hold onto things they love that they shouldn’t. I can appreciate your “favorite blouse” that got you your first big job, or that comfy sweater you wear on repeat. Sometimes it’s just time to let go.  It may seem obvious, but you would be surprised how many hold onto items with holes, with “just a small stain”, that have stretched out fabric, or fit poorly. Sometimes it’s just time to let go, and move on.

2. JEANS THAT DON’T FIT OR FLATTER
This is a BIG one.  We don’t need ten pairs of the same jeans.  Skinny jeans (although popular and look great on some) are NOT the most flattering jean type for every figure; yet they overwhelm our closets.  To start, I suggest my clients focus on keeping/buying 3 jeans in 3 different categories: Your weekend comfort “go-to’s”, a work jean, and a date night jean.  The right fit, hem-type, waistline, fabric make-up, color, and brand will all depend on YOUR unique figure, how often you wear them, and your overall style. Jeans are a beast of their own that I personally live to help clients tackle!  Feel free to email me directly to get specific advice on the best jeans for you.  (More content to come about jeans in future emails!)

3. DATED FOOTWEAR
Dated heel styles, heels beyond repair, worn out soles, scuffed toes, ill fit, and material discoloration are all reasons to toss the pair that you’ve worn to death. A shoe can make or break a killer outfit.  I suggest making sure you have at least 5 options to create a well rounded collection to start. (I’m sure most of you have more than 5 pairs!)
