Fall always brings new-chapter energy in NYC and I love it! It’s one of my favorite times of year. It’s the perfect moment to give your wardrobe that same energy refresh.

From client calls to coffee meetups, the smallest style details really can change everything.

Feeling stylish doesn’t need to be complicated.

Ever notice that woman who walks into a room and just looks effortlessly put together? She’s not lucky. She’s not spending hours in front of her closet every morning. She simply knows a few easy tricks that instantly elevate her look.

The truth is, anyone can learn them, practice them, and make them their own.

Below are 10 simple, but impactful, style tips that work for real life—whether you’re leading teams at work or you just want to step out the door feeling a little more confident each day.

10 Style Tips To Instantly Look Put-Together

1. Dress for the body you have now

Stop waiting for the “someday” body to buy clothes you love. Your body is meant to change—and your wardrobe should keep up. Dressing for today (not 10 years ago or 10 pounds from now) gives you an instant confidence boost and ensures your outfits actually fit and flatter. Clothes should work for you, not the other way around.

Stylist tip: If something feels tight, itchy, or uncomfortable, it will never look stylish. Comfort and fit go hand in hand.

2. Add structured clothing for an effortlessly polished look

Nothing says “put-together” like a structured piece. Think crisp poplin shirts, a tailored blazer, or a pencil skirt that holds its shape. Structured items create clean lines that instantly elevate softer, more casual basics.

Stylist tip: Pair a structured blazer with your favorite jeans, bold layered necklaces, and a tee. You’ll look like you tried, even if you didn’t.

3. Balance outfit proportions for flattering style

Great style is all about proportion. If you’re wearing wide-leg trousers, balance them with a fitted top. Voluminous sleeves? Keep the bottom sleek to even things out. If your hips or curves are fuller? Add structure on top with a sharp jacket.

There's a lot more to this one, but knowing the basics is a good start. Balance creates harmony in your outfit and prevents you from feeling “swallowed up” or overwhelmed by fabric.

4. Declutter and edit your closet twice a year (at least)

If you can’t see it, you won’t wear it. A cluttered, chaotic closet makes getting dressed harder than it needs to be, so keep the best pieces front and center. Editing helps you rediscover forgotten favorites and makes room for new pieces that actually work with your lifestyle now.

Twice a year—ideally spring and fall—take everything out and pack away anything that hasn’t been worn in months or no longer fits. I help clients do this all the time; the feedback? It’s a game-changer.

5. Use tailoring to instantly upgrade your clothes

Even a $40 pair of pants looks like $400 when tailored to your frame. Hemming, nipping, and tucking make clothes yours. Off-the-rack sizing is made for the masses—tailoring customizes it for you. And quite frankly I have 100% of my clients tailor certain prices and many times it’s like bringing something old back to life.  Fit matters; don’t skip this one.

Stylist tip: Start small and adjust pant hems first, blazer sleeve length, or waistlines (like the gap in the back). The difference is dramatic.

6. Accessorize with intention for a chic finish

Accessories are the shortcut to polish. They’re an easy and inexpensive way to refresh your wardrobe, and they make a world of difference when worn. A novelty bag, fun flats, chic sneakers, or a statement necklace can transform an otherwise plain outfit into something memorable. And they’re even better when paired with casual looks for that effortless “cool girl” feel.

Stylist tip: Think of accessories as punctuation. They complete your look and add personality. Just one or two well-chosen pieces are enough.

7. Mix high + low fashion to create modern looks

It’s not about labels—it’s about how you style pieces together. For example, a Zara blazer styled with tailored Nili Lotan trousers, unique Etsy jewelry finds, and a vintage or designer bag looks infinitely chicer than wearing head-to-toe “luxury” without intention. The blend makes your style personal and modern.

Stylist tip: Pair your favorite everyday jeans with a sharp oversized button down and artisan-made jewelry for that effortless balance.

8. Invest in versatile, well-made shoes that last

Shoes make or break an outfit. Well-made leather boots, heels, sleek flats, and versatile sneakers with quality hardware outlast cheap synthetics. They carry you through multiple seasons and occasions. Quality shoes not only last longer, they elevate everything else you’re wearing.

Stylist tip: Polish leather, waterproof suede, and refresh soles each season. You can take your shoes to a professional if you don’t want to DIY it. A little upkeep = long-lasting polish.

9. Stick to a wardrobe color palette that works together

A cohesive palette means your clothes naturally mix and match. Start with neutrals (black, navy, beige, gray, white) as your base, then add two or three accent shades. Suddenly, everything works together, not in opposition.

One palette doesn’t mean boring or restrictive. A wardrobe with intention saves time, money, and decision fatigue. You’ll be able to come up with more outfit combos than a wardrobe filled with clashing colors and prints. It’s a situation where less really means more.

10. Create and repeat your signature style

The most stylish women repeat. A bold red lip, statement jewelry, fun coats, chic glasses frames—whatever feels like you, becomes your signature. And repeating it often makes you recognizable and memorable; your signature thing becomes your style. Own it!

Stylist tip: Your “thing” doesn’t need to be big. Even a go-to ear cuff or favorite nail color can become your signature. The key is consistency.
