Five Fabulous Pieces to Outshine at Every Holiday Party

Hey there, welcome back to Elevated Style By Aliya!

Can we talk about the holiday season for a sec? It's exciting, but it can be non-stop. One minute, you're picking out an outfit that's just the right amount of sassy-chic for your partner's office party (hello, we still want to look hot but HR-approved). Next, you're trying to find something for a comfy but festive family function, or a “PTA friendly” school function. The goal is to look and feel good for all of them, but it's not always an easy task for our closets.

And it doesn't stop there. How about those end-of-year drinks with your work crew? You want to be stylish, but keep it professional. Plus, there's turning your home into holiday central for family and friends, while somehow also finding the world's most thoughtful gifts. (I still don't know what to get my own tween boys these days. Any tips? Email me!)

So, yeah. It's a lot.

What To Wear To A Holiday Party?

Holiday style doesn't have to add to the stress that can sometimes go hand in hand this time of year. So, I've handpicked five killer pieces for holiday parties that are sure to turn heads and make you feel like a star, even if you’re burning the holiday cookies (or is that just me?).

I have had so much fun finding holiday pieces for clients this season that I wanted to share a few with you as well!

Stylist-Approved Holiday Outfit Ideas For 2023

1. Modern Metallics

Don’t be afraid to shine this season with a DKNY metallic knit.

Forget what you knew about metallics being confined to just accessories. This season, it’s all about integrating metallic elements into anything, really. A shimmery top, a sequined skirt or festive sweater with metallic threads, or even metallic flats can add that much-needed pop to your holiday party outfit. You can go full out sparkle city with sequins or be more understated – even just a hint of shimmer can catch the light and turn heads. Pair metallics with understated pieces to keep it chic.

Effortless Style Tip: Pair a metallic top with high-waisted black leather or velvet pants and it’s instant chic. Or tone it down with a sleek pair of black jeans, statement earrings, a fun heel, and you’re good to go.

2.  Decadent Velvet Trousers

Velvet – the undisputed royalty of holiday textures. It shows up EVERY holiday season, but with a modern twist. This year velvet wide-leg trousers in rich, jeweled tones are not just on-trend, they feel luxe and comfy. And added bonus, the longline silhouette elongates legs.

Effortless Style Tip: Balance the volume of wide-leg trousers with a fitted top, and make sure to pair your long pants with heels. Even if they’re only 1 inch block heels, they help the pants drape like they should, streamlining your entire look.

3. The Star Power Sequin Skirt

Sequins and the holiday season are a match made in style heaven. But this year, it’s all about the chic midi skirt. Versatile and flattering, a sequin midi skirt can be the centerpiece of your party outfit. Whether you’re going for a casual get-together or a formal event, this piece adapts with ease. I’ve even worn a sequin skirt with a hoodie and lace-up combat boots out and about on a regular day in the city.  Shiny things tend to make us feel a little more “special” in a way, so why wait to only wear them once a year!? A mini works well too. It’s best for non-work functions, but still age-appropriate when paired with a fuller top, a tall boot or ankle booties, and fun sheer tights.

Effortless Style Tip: Dress down this glamorous skirt with a chunky knit sweater or a crisp, oversized button down white shirt for a juxtaposition that speaks volumes in style.

4. *Slightly* Sensual Statement Tops

Add an alluring touch to your party look with NONchalant’s off-the-shoulder Tru top

There’s nothing wrong with flirty tops that show just the right amount of skin. However, this vibe is best suited for the “fun, no-holding back” holiday party with friends or a night out, not necessarily your kids’ holiday school concert. Think one-shoulders, subtle backless designs, or sheer pieces with strategic layering. Sexy, chic and cool. These tops will have you looking effortlessly glam while adding a contemporary edge to your fit.

Effortless Style Tip: Be mindful of having the right shapewear for your torso and/or the right bra for these tops.  If you don’t have a quality (and comfortable) strapless bra, now is the time to get one. Even though you may only wear it twice a year, it will be worth it!

5. Picturesque Pearls

Pearls are having a major moment, but not in the way our grandmothers wore them. We’re talking pearl accessories in your hair (in a grown up kinda way), on edgy shoes, and adorning modern handbags. This classic accessory staple, when used in unexpected ways, can create a look that's both timeless and on trend.

Effortless Style Tip: A pearl-embellished clutch, pearl-studded shoes, or adorned shirt collar are perfect for adding a sophisticated twist to your fun holiday look.

Embrace Your Style With Confidence

Remember, style is an extension of your personality and self expression, so why not EXPRESS YOURSELF this holiday season?

So often we are caught up in what others think, not wanting to stand out, or staying in a comfort zone, that we can dim our own light.

To hell with that. Life is way too short.

Experiment, have fun, and most importantly, wear what makes you feel amazing. We all define that differently, and that’s the beauty of style and self expression!
